The beginning of the trip featured a wedding between a Romanian friend we met in California, and his Moldovan bride. Moldova is ethnically Romanian, but was part of the USSR. Romania is now an EU member, but Moldova is not.

Romanians definitely know how to throw a wedding; they go on for days. Moldovans cling perhaps more tightly to the Romanian traditions than the Romanians, since they were occupied by the Soviets.
