San José

San José is the fairly small capital city of Costa Rica. We didn't find too much to do there.

Our hotel provided good security, including artistic rebar protecting this circular tilting window.

There were murals in the hotel stairwell.

Here's a building which hasn't been keeping up its awnings.

Carrion was the name of a major department store downtown. Yet these were pigeons, not vultures.

The gold museum is underneath one of the main squares. Unfortunately soon after we arrived they made us leave because the air conditioning wasn't working, and didn't give us a refund. Here are some decorative pipes outside.

At the base of the pipes is this creative use of springs.

Our last night in Latin America was the first night for our friend Justin and four of his friends.

During dinner we heard some electronic sound that we supposed was some video game. It turned out to be this marimba played by two live musicians.

After dinner Justin and his friends drank tequila -- two shots for $1.

We returned to Bakea, a wonderful restaurant, for another one of their dessert assortments.
