{"id":25,"date":"2008-08-18T12:39:52","date_gmt":"2008-08-18T19:39:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.apresmidi.net\/china08\/?p=25"},"modified":"2008-08-18T13:53:53","modified_gmt":"2008-08-18T20:53:53","slug":"a-zipless-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.apresmidi.net\/china08\/?p=25","title":{"rendered":"A Zipless Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Twice on our trip, Hong Kong Airport provided unexpected convenience. \u00c2\u00a0(I wish we&#8217;d expected the conveniences, but they worked out well anyway.)<\/p>\n<p>When we arrived from Seoul a week ago, we found that since we wanted to go to Macau, we could head straight to the Ferry Transfer Desk <em>before<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0immigration. \u00c2\u00a0We gave them our baggage claim checks, and they hunted down our bags and transferred them directly to the ferry. \u00c2\u00a0We were able to get on a bus to the ferry without officially entering Hong Kong. \u00c2\u00a0Of course, when we arrived in Macau, we officially entered Macau.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier today (Hong Kong time), we went to the Kowloon Airport Express station where the plan was that I would go to the airport for my flight back, and Ray would accompany me to deal with all the luggage. \u00c2\u00a0It turned out this wasn&#8217;t necessary: \u00c2\u00a0at the Airport Express stations, there are actual airline check-in counters. \u00c2\u00a0I checked my bags and got my boarding pass. \u00c2\u00a0Ray didn&#8217;t have to go to the airport early. \u00c2\u00a0(If we&#8217;d expected this, we could have checked his bag at the same time.)<\/p>\n<p>One of the tourist spots we could have gone to is on Lantau Island near the airport. \u00c2\u00a0It&#8217;s a gigantic sitting Buddha, which is now easy to get to via a subway line next to but separate from the Airport Express, and a cable car. \u00c2\u00a0I was able to see it as we took off.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m home now. \u00c2\u00a0I&#8217;ll do as much as I can before I collapse from exhaustion, which hopefully will happen about the time it gets dark. \u00c2\u00a0Voice mail, mail, e-mail, making sure the fragile objects didn&#8217;t break, etc. \u00c2\u00a0And perhaps even upgrading my iPhone software.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Twice on our trip, Hong Kong Airport provided unexpected convenience. \u00c2\u00a0(I wish we&#8217;d expected the conveniences, but they worked out well anyway.)
