The Flamingos and the Heron

Our guide took us to a little lagoon where flamingos often hang out.

Flamingoes have a graceful yet jerky gait, the sort that is called "stately" or "comic". They had no life goal when we got there.

Then a Great Blue Heron flew in with a fish it had just caught. The flamingoes took an interest in that.

The three of them walked statelily towards him in hope of getting some. Nobody seemed in a terrible hurry about any of this.

It takes a heron quite a while to maneuver a fish into swallowing position, maybe ten minutes. The fish has to be not moving vigorously, and then it has to be lined up so that it doesn't go down sideways. The fish of course is trying to get away for as long as it can. Animals are very un-kosher in their killing habits.

Ultimately the heron swallowed the fish, and the flamingos and the other seabirds went back to doing whatever they'd been doing before.
